Sometimes I just don't understand where the odds-makers come up with this stuff, but apparently Demetrius Hopkins, the undefeated and supremely talented cousin of the great Bernard Hopkins is a 2 to 1 underdog to take the flawed and twice KO'd fighter from Patterson, NJ. In my humble opinion this is at best a pick-em fight and more likely a match in which Hopkins should be a light favorite.
The resumes here tell the story quite well. While in his last three fights Hopkins won an impressive shutout over Steve Forbes and easily got by two journeyman foes, Holt barely escaped with a decision win over Ben Tackie, was knocked out cold by Ricardo Torres and was just about to be knocked out again when Torres ran right into the luckiest Hail Mary Holt has ever unleashed.
I believe this will be a hard fought but relatively easy win for Hopkins. He will keep Holt at bay with his superior jab and also have an edge on the inside. From what I've seen, Hopkins has a very sturdy beard so unless Holt lands another lottery punch, I don't see this fight ending with a Holt stoppage.
The bet here is 2 units on Hopkins by decision at +300 and 1 unit by straight win at +200. While I feel confident this fight will go the full 12, I would protect my wager with the hedge on Hopkins straight. Good luck!!
