Nobody loves Roy Jones Jr. more than this writer.
I watched every single right hand, every slip, every seamless counter. I marveled at this ring artist as he dismantled grown men as if they were so many tin soldiers.
He was the greatest I saw in my lifetime and perhaps the greatest of all time. I will remember him for his classic destruction of James Toney, his one-round annihilation of Montel Griffin and his heroic capture of the heavyweight crown against John Ruiz.
Part of me wants to see the old Roy tomorrow night. But another part just wants to remember him for what he was. That part knows that the old Roy is long gone.
Without getting into details, Joe Calzaghe will just be too much for this old horse. We all know it to be true. Its just so hard to say goodbye to our heroes.
Goodbye Roy. I'll miss you. We'll all miss what you gave us for so many good years.
